Some journeys begin with a grand plan.
Mine began with disappointment.
Every bottle in the shop felt borrowed. Something would catch my attention on the testing strip — and by the time I got home, the scent had become someone else's. A celebrity's. A season's. A marketing room's idea of a woman. I would put the bottle down and wear something else, and the cycle continued for years.
At some point I stopped looking, and I started learning. Note by note, raw material by raw material — eighty of them, eventually — until the language of scent became something I could speak in my own voice. Charli Morje is the studio I built so that no one would ever have to wear someone else's story again.
A fragrance is the most personal thing a person can wear. The truest jewellery — invisible, but the one piece you never take off. I do not believe it should ever be borrowed.

charli morje is a Latvian studio, based in Riga — a city most people abroad do not know, and a city whose art nouveau quarter is one of the most concentrated in the world. there is a northern european register to the work made here: restrained, precise, considered. quieter than Paris, slower than New York, with the kind of detail that comes from a culture that has spent a hundred years building beautiful things and not telling anyone about them
